Hazing at Florida A&M

Hazing is something that has been going on in colleges for many years. It's not something new. The only new thing about it is that the hazers are starting to get punished. However, punishment is only being implemented in some schools. Unfortunately, most of the time, people only get punished when it's too late. Recently, at Florida A&M University, a student died from hazing. One might think that hazing in sports, fraternities or sororities would be the worst, however, hazing in band programs is by far the most vicious. In band program hazings, the culprits perform rituals and initiations where they beat and brutalize fellow band members to a shocking extent, resulting in injury and trauma, and in some cases, death. The problem is that the institutions are often aware of what's going on, but the authorities do nothing to stop it. This might be because it's been going on for so long that people think it's normal, when it is really barbaric, the remnant of an archaic initiation practice. The only way these outdated, violent hazings are going to end is if people stop looking the other way and start punishing the hazers before it is too late.
